Hearing Loss Poetry III

Okay, time to have a little fun with this, then I will put this subject to rest for a while.  I wrote this when I was still wearing ITE (in the ear) hearing aids.  My apologies to anyone offended, but you have to admit the power of words are only given their strength through the mind of the reader.

A SOUND AFFAIR

He whines and moans when her hand
Fondles his curves of flesh.
Beady eyes peer into her dark canal
While
She turns him on,
And he echoes
The delights of the world,
Picking up
All the garbage,
Not just the juicy tidbits.

Because his inner soul
Remains too complicated for her to
Care, his purpose is only
Functional, not
Forever.

His deafening silence becomes
Unbearable, and she
Rips open his chest to
grasp his dead heart,
Replacing it with a new Air-Zinc
Ever-Ready.

  1. Good Lord, Girl! I guess if you're are a great writer, you have many facets. You also are able to set yourself free. It must be wonderful. The metaphors here are fantastic, fun, sensuous, scary and truly heart-rendering. Is this about your hearing aid and also being a woman wanting to connect with things around her, to be of value and fun? This also makes me feel the tender issues between men and women and communication.

  2. Thanks so much for your input. I rarely try this facet, and if it were not for you, and your wonderful comment, I doubt that any one is really interested. That's okay. I so appreciate your shared thoughts. Blessings!

  3. This is fantastic. I guess that is the stuff good writers are made of - diversity and risk. While I think you may be talking about your hearing aid, some of this reminds me of my former husband, a dear but troubled person who always needed to rely on others for his energy. How do you sometimes take an idea and make it more broad? This poem helps me understand what a friend's day might be like - a friend I will never meet - but who has put many things out there for folks to ponder. As I re-read, I also think of decisions where to invest our energy and what the payoff might be. I don't mean this in a self-centered way but there is only so much time and I have gotten to the point where I am more discerning. Where do I invest energy that I can be of more use to myself and others. A battery opens up your entire world. Me getting rid of self-pity opened up mine. I asked God to be my battery, again, and it is overwhelming. I found out He was never gone, just waiting. Whether it's a material thing like a hearing aid or a risk with a those around us or circumstances, I guess we choose our battles and know a little better what the odds are. e
